This auction is for a set of 10 Volumes of Thackery s Works, Illustrated by the author. The titles are in gilt (gold).
This is a set, I had purchased at an estate sale, many years ago. I thought perhaps someone who collects old books might like them..
They were published by Belford, Clarke and Company, Chicago and New York.
I do not know much about old books, only comic books, but the books appear to be in fair condition, they have gilt (gold) writing on the covers, the pages range from off-white (in a few) to browning. There is no copywrite date, but from what I can find on the web, they were published in the 1870 s or 1880 s.
The buy it now is very low, because I just hope they can find a good home, no longer collecting these items.
Included in the set are:
The Adventures of Philip, Endpapers are nice, first 3 pages are loose, pages are off-white with tanning edges.
Barry Lyndon, Great Hogarty Diamond. End papers are nice, pages are cream to light tan, there is a dent in the cover, where it must have been tied with string.
Christmas Book of Snobs and Ballads. The pages in this book are off-white, except for pages 350 to approx 550, which are tanning. Endpapers are nice, no loose pages.
Henry Esmond, Catharine, Denis Duval, and Lovel the Widower, Endpapers are split in the back, pages are light tan to tan, and the first 3 pages are separated.
Irish and Eastern Sketches, endpapers are nice, pages are cream to tan, no loose pages.
